Let me first say that I'm referring to the one that died and not the one from Born to Run (which I don't give a **** about to be honest).

I'm probably going to talking to myself here since I don't think many people visit the fanfic forum very much anymore... But I really wish there were more AU fics that included Derek. Fanfiction.net is filled full of post-btr fanfics and while Derek is part of those fics, he's not the same character I've followed for two seasons so I have a hard time caring about what happens to him.

I personally feel that there is so much that people can explore with the character especially after the events of Today is the day.

Hello wiki members....

For those of you who aren't acquainted with me, I thought I might give a brief introduction. I was a frequent poster on the red wiki in 2008 before Season 2 came out. I dropped out soon after it started and never got back except for just a few posts between the end of 2009 and now.

My interest in writing a fanfic began with speculation about what was going to happen in Season 2. While Season 2 is long done and gone, I had ideas for character arcs on how John becomes the person he needs to be and also of Cameron's journey in learning about humans and pondering the meaning of her own existence. I always wanted to put my Season 2 speculation into a story.

I've noticed that most people now are already past that stage and are already writing Season 3 fanfics. I've been too busy in the last three years to get my own fanfic writing journey going. I'm currently unemployed and feel that this is my chance now that I have a lot more free time.

I've already written a substantial amount of "fanfic," but at the moment, they're just fragments. There is no coherent story yet. My ideas have evolved a number of times and there is a lot of stuff I have "dumped" -- ideas that sounded good for a while.

The question is how I might get started and keep the momentum going. Motivation is important. I have thought of writing the whole story and then posting the whole thing in one go on the wiki, but I think it would really help if I could get back to being a regular on the wiki and talk about my fanfic writing efforts with people here.

First things first: writer's block is a *****. And with no new TSCC material to inspire me, it's hard to find a moment where I can just sit down and type through an entire chapter of 10,000 words. So that's my excuse for not updating my story as frequently as I would like. But I am determined to see it through, so no worries there. I'm currently writing Chapter 04 and should (hopefully) have it finished by tonight.

The story is pretty slow in the first half of the story (20 chapters planned) but things pick up in Chapter 05, which is why I'm so eager (if unmotivated) to get through this one. Yeah, the Connors spend most of their time confined to the house. There's a reason for this as it pertains to the plot, but I'll let them all out for fresh air soon enough. Anyway, I'll stick a preview of Chapter 04 below this post.

In the last two days I have read Bigbew's first two fan fictions, "Just Something I Should Do" and I Wouldn't Be Worth Much If I Couldn't Feel." I enjoyed both of them very much.
I have read some fan fiction that I have liked that focused on big battle scenes and the climatic confrontation with Skynet, but too often I find those stories get get repetitive, with one battle scene followed by another. We wouldn't have ever got those scenes in a TV production of TSCC, and even on the big screen such a story could easily become lost in special effects. For me, TSSC was more about the characters, and I have found Bigbew's stories to have that. His writings remind me of the stories of my personal favorite writer, Elusive Sanity. I highly recommend his work.

So after being requested by several people to write another (dedicated) season 3 fan fiction I decided to do so. As I’ve stated to several people, this is going to be an extremely dark fan fic and a very unique look at John Connor along with several other characters. And again I’d like to thank Kaotic and Orsino for helping me with this.

I have been very vocal regarding my view that very little character development took place on the show. All were conceptually good characters (IMO, besides Riley), just executed poorly.

Given this, when do you decide when to take a character and develop it in a way to fit into a fanfic? Derek is a popular character for various interpretations. Where is the line between character development and OC?

I had a thought about Riley in that her presentation on the show was greatly flawed. I don't see how anyone could be that naive and gullible and survive the JD world. She would need to be savvy, self reliant and resourceful. She demonstrated none of these attributes. The first order of any JD survivor is survival, regardless of the environment. I would like for her to have been cunning with her own agenda. Basically present herself to Jesse as portrayed on the show. However, she was only using Jesse to get to "paradise." Then once here, she would put her plan into action to get into the Connor inner circle. I wanted to see her a cunning determine, while also showing some vulnerability. No one is strong all the time, so...

So, is it OK to go OC for someone who was not fully realized on the show, even a main character?

By the way, is it just me that finds Charlie as an non compelling character? I find nothing about him interesting. IMO, it would be much more interesting if the Connors were able to recruit someone, or find a resistance fighter who was already a medic. I just don't see any value in him as a character.

Sorry for the incoherent post. It's late and I just wanted to get my thoughts out.

I've seen many stories refer to gun shots experienced by the Connor team as simple flesh wounds. I've never been shot, nor know anyone who has. Many stories treat these gunshots like a bee sting, which seems wrong to me. Am I missing something?

Hey all. Just letting you know that I'm taking the outlandish concept of mixing the 24 along with the Connor clan's plight to stop Judgment Day in a crossover fic. I got the latest 24 season on DVD during Christmas and have completely relapsed on my 24 mania once again. This is probably a result of that.

I ran into a few challenges in the first chapter, mostly trying to tie both continuities together. This one takes place in the more recent post-season seven timetable of 24 and sometime after [insert preferred season three fic here] for TSCC. Pretty much any reference to John's excellent adventure (or bogus journey) to 2027 won't happen. What you do know is that John, Sarah, Cameron, and New Derek are at their own tricks again. The day will start and end at 3:00 am. As for 24, I had to dig up some old characters as well as a reason for Jack to be in LA again so he can run into the Connors. To do this, I also made John an intern at CTU before the fic begins, pretty much making him the "mole" that is eventually discovered in each season. This is also reasoned with a "hiding in plain sight" motif that John is trying to do. And with Judgment Day looming, the Connors are becoming more and more desperate. Sarah and John want to try and fight it off one more time while both Cameron and Derek want to go underground. Jack and John will also have a friendship similar to Charlie and John's during the series. Hope to get some feedback of what you guys think so far!

With that being said: the day is April 20, 2011. The following takes place between 3:00 am and 4:00 am. Events occur in real time. :-)
