Created this thread after reading about people talking about TV shows in general. This is not for ratings news, it's for TV shows anyone is watching right now, why they like it, and if others like or dislike it, what channel it's on, etc. I'd actually encourage posting Youtube videos as well, for posters to illustrate particular scenes they like watching.
Mind you, it's for TV you are watching right now . Not something you watched a year ago. It doesn't have to be on the air, it can be on Netflix or DVD, but the rule is you have to be watching it with some regularity at this moment. For example, I cannot talk about The Wire here unless I'm actually watching episodes, or Boardwalk Empire since it's run for Season 2 has ended. Shows I'm watching right now: 1) Shameless on Showtime: Laughing like crazy at this one, but it's a painful kind of humor. The show's title says it all, it's about a lower class family in Chicago which does anything and everything to survive. The "patriarch" is a drunk named Frank who will do anything, including ripping off the poor box from a church, to get money for alcohol. 2) Spartacus: Vengeance on Starz. Mainly because I like 300 the movie, and I'm a history nut, so I already know how Spartacus' tale will end, but it's a great ride getting there. 3) Top Chef on Bravo. Go ahead and laugh, it's actually the only Reality TV show I watch, because I love to cook. And this one is an actual competition. Moreover, I usually learn a little bit about cooking every time I watch an episode. 4) Star Trek: TOS on Netflix. Watching episodes I haven't seen, like The Conscience Of The King, or ones I haven't seen in years, like Miri.

Okay, just for kicks, I've started watching episodes of Firefly for the first time on Hulu and TheWB.com. Never seen the show before, but I've seen the movie Serenity (and own the DVD). Really this is just as much a thread of me posting my thoughts as I watch the show and seeing you guys comment on it. Now, as of this writing, I've seen Episode 6 I believe, in the order they're meant to be viewed. So I haven't watched all 14 episodes. So please, for the love of GOD, no SPOILERS. EVER.
Unless you want to bring the wrath of The_GodfatherSJP down on your head, and I admit, I could do with issuing a smiting, I'm a little out of practice. So to also open up discussion on the series where Summer Glau got her first real big break, I thought I'd post some thoughts. First off, I have to say I actually like the movie more than the TV Series, even after watching the first few episodes. Kind of surprising I admit, but much of it is because the movie is much more polished and keeps the Western Theme toned down. But this show is a VERY awkward mishmash of Westerns, Sci-Fi, and even some Chinese Dress and Speech. Why is it so awkward? Because there isn't an "organic" feel to it. It's just there because that's the look the producers wanted. It's doesn't gel the way it would if this was an actual world, therefore the world of the TV series doesn't feel very "real" to me. The "Western" sequences look cheap and and very jarring. The series seems to work better, so far, when using a Sci-Fi look with Western overtones, instead of a Western civilization with a spaceship dropping into it. Also, I don't find the setup all that original. Basically the Alliance feels like the Empire from Star Wars with a Smiley Face on the bumper sticker of the cruiser that smacks you in the face.

If you want to discuss any science fiction subject, from any time period or medium, this is the place to do it.
Star Trek, Robotech, Blade Runner, Star Wars, Asimov, TimeSplitters, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, Stargate... anything and everything that can be classified as sci-fi. Let the nerd rants begin.

OK I hope some of you watch this or DL it if another country.
it will be something to discuss. I thought it would be the first "new" show to air, but it is 2nd, Vampire Diaries is 1st. [I posted it on red wiki too, but thought I would test the water here too, if you guys are not interested, the thread will fade away so no harm done] so with new ep of VD as a lead in, and airing early before people are watching their regulars maybe it will do ok in ratings. I am not expecting a great pilot, most pilots suck, I am more interested in what the first 6 shows are like. but anyway if some of you can and will watch it you can say what you think good or bad. I think maggie q will do good in this, but I was thinking today this is the kinda role summer could have been good in and she would have been the star. I am going to do a thread for just a few of the new shows as they come out, did anyone else here watch S-1 of Life Unexpected ?? it was very good , looking forward to the first show of S-2 next week, because of the way it ended last season.

This thread is devoted to the discussion of all things firearm-related. It's also a good place to discuss anti-Metal weaponry, realism (or lack thereof) in fiction/movies, and your personal favorites.
To start things off, here's a list of a few guns I've used in my fiction (that I can recall): http://www.para-usa.com/new/product_pistol_large.php?id=71 http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=67&productid=266 http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/bigbore/1895G.asp http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=12761&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15707&isFirearm=Y http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=024B&cat_id=011&type_id=600 http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=26§ion=products

I think there is enough information and trailers out there that we can now have a discussion thread on the show.
Plus We're a month away so why not? Here is a brand new trailer with a Treasure Chest of clips including a brilliant job from Lena Headey. http://www.makinggameofthrones.com/production-diary/2011/3/13/fear-and-blood-preview.html PS. I think it's up to you guys if you want to talk series spoilers or not, since A Dance With Dragons will come out the week of the Season Finale of the Series.

Is Fringe going belly-up?
I have been a long time lurker at the Fringe wiki, and I just found this PM from our old pal WildKat: "Dear Fringe Fans, It is with regret that we share the news that FOX and Wetpaint will no longer be maintaining this fansite, as of July 1, 2010. If there is any content or information you wish to preserve, please copy it to your local computer prior to July 1, when the site will go offline permanently. FOX and Fringe invite you to join the central community on FOX.com." This was from April 29th. Strangely enough, some of the members have formed an alternate wiki dedicated to the show (sound familiar?). I just joined that one also: http://fringewikibis.wetpaint.com/thread The more I watch other scifi shows lately, the more I like Fringe. I hope this is not a bad omen. If nothing else, this show is notable as the last acting job Leonard Nimoy will ever have.
