Implicit in my argument early on is that it's actually not a good idea to expect more of the same if you've got a different cast and crew behind a film, you're better off leaving any expectations at the door. There's no way a new team is gonna produce something exactly like an earlier entry in the franchise, fan expectations be damned. This is also true about something that reboots it completely, like the new BSG. There are still "old-school" BSG fans who direct unbelievable amounts of vitriol at Ron Moore's version, and I mean the very idea of this thing. Because it is so different from the 1978 version, these people hate it, because it doesn't match their expectations.

And my general attitude is: why should it? It's different people in charge, and they have every right to make changes or do something different with the franchise, regardless of what "fans" think. What a new group of people does should be <I>judged on its own merits</I>. If the writers wanted to end T3 with the idea that Judgment Day was inevitable, that was their prerogative. I thought this was a mistake, because doing so makes any "action sequence," such as heading to the CRS command center or anything else where they're trying to stop the bombs dropping, completely pointless.

But notice my criticism. It's a purely mechanical one: <I>this is logical fallacy in telling that story</I>. It's not based on what direction the franchise should go. If they're gonna make J-Day unstoppable, then any more chase sequences in T3 should be Connor trying to find safety from the TX, not hopelessly trying to stop J-Day. In other words, what happens in T1, where each sequence is just about trying to get Sarah away from the T-800. Instead they used it as a plot twist to end the movie, which they really shouldn't have done.

Actually I think this was a case of James Cameron ignoring what the specifics of what Kyle Reese said in T1. Remember, Reese also states he's the last guy through the portal, then it's blown up, and the entire opening scrawl for T1 ends with how The Final Battle For The Future would be fought tonight. For this to be true, Reese and the T-800 have to be the last 2 people through the portal. Now how in hell could Reese not know about the Uncle Bob and T-1000 in this case?

Of course, Reese also states that he doesn't know "tech stuff," in the same movie, which means he's not an omniscient narrator. He strongly implies that he doesn't understand how the TDM actually works, just that nothing "dead" will go. He therefore can make mistakes and you can't take his actual history as canon: by his own admission he can get stuff wrong.

Mind you, it's important to remember what "organic" actually means in science. It just means Carbon-based. The Horta from Star Trek, for example, would be considered inorganic, despite the fact that it's clearly a life form (silicon based, but not a cyborg at all). So the T-1000 can definitely be classified as a life form even if it's made entirely of metal.
