Since no one is compensated for any time spent here and there is no monetary gain of any sort, conflict of interest does not apply.

"Assassination. You might want to avoid windows and open spaces..."
For purposes of this thread, off topic replies will be deleted.

I think we should have one serious venue.

I agree with, RDO.

It would be nice to have a thread that doesn't go off-topic so we (mods) can get some legit feedback from the members. If anyone has any suggestions for this place, lets hear them.

It has come to my attention that THE OFFICIAL DELUSIVE THREAD is in dire need of a Not Safe For Work flag. Do you find this valuable?

TODT has always needed a Not Safe for Work flag, however, it's getting out of control. I will handle it.

Is there a way to "slippery" a thread? Some forums I'm on have that feature... basically the opposite of a "sticky" thread that stays bumped. A "slippery" thread never gets bumped. It's still open and people can post in it if they want, but it doesn't keep getting bumped to the top of the page.

Undoubtedly, the Taint has no such feature. This would be a slippery wiki at the rate we express ourselves here, heh. Just wait for the posts to get buried, the woman did say she was going to handle it, and I am as sure as the sun rises tomorrow that she will.

ETA: Also, I just noticed no mod ever answered. RDO, you opened this thread!

Taint forum tools are hammers rather than scalpels.

This will likely be another case of the forum moderating itself.

(eta) oddly enough, reading Kaotic's reply #2 in the TODT, it seems that 'slipperyness' manifested itself as a glitch in the original version.

It was never the intention of my comment to initiate any bloodletting. Is it a function of raising a topic into the light of the authorities that it would then appear as a form of complaint? Perhaps it is, and do allow me to clarify that it was merely a suggestion in order to avoid any real further issues. I myself have no qualm with anything that I have seen transpiring in this space.

A recent occurrence on the 'Fanfiction reviews and discussion' thread has prompted this post.

I noticed that a long time member and contributor had made a post that advanced an opinion that turned out to be quite unpopular. Among the replies to this post were many that refuted his stance, and stated an opposing view. This is all well and good, the very meat and potatoes of a discussion forum.

What made this incident stand out for me was not the general give and take that opposing opinions generate, but the volume of replies, and the range of reactions from mild snark, to outright hostility, and in at least one case, juvenile schoolyard taunting.

Also, that at the center of this debate, was Brendan Stallard, a poster well known for his propensity towards 'fun over fury, discussion over argument'. Brendan was quite careful to include disclaimers that this was in fact, his own opinion, and that Your Mileage May Vary. Moreover, I was impressed by Stallard's constraint in not replying to acrimonious replies in kind.

The one other reason that I am reacting to this, is that recently other moderators and I have been hearing accusations and rumors of an 'old boys network' or a 'clique' that ostracizes people that have unpopular opinions. In my case, these accusations have come from standing members, lurkers, and members who have left or been expelled from this wiki. Up until now I have been assuring these accusers that such allegations are preposterous, and unfounded. This recent occurrences tends to sap the winds from those sails. In fact, it gives credence to the rumor that a 'pack mentality' abides here.

For the old guard, this may seem no more than a falling out amongst friends, but for those peripheral to this wiki, it may make the difference between joining and contributing, or moving on to the next inviting forum.

In short, all I am really asking is that one of the very few lines in our CoC be considered: "Debates are to be done respectfully."

Hmm, I don't think that argument was so much about a "pack" attacking an outsider just because he has an opposing view, as it was that many people individually thought Brendan's stuff was beyond completely ridiculous. I didn't join in on the discussion, but I too was facepalming. Do you find this valuable?

Personal attacks and sniping don't qualify as debating respectfully.

True, but my point was that there was no "pack" which coordinated an attack on an outsider. And while it does not excuse it, I fully understand that some people went overboard.

I guess if someone seeks a wiki for TSCC it is hard to get around this one.

I may be again the only one who thinks that, but I don't think that it was this kind of dramatic. Different opinions lead to discussions and discussions combined with some fancy words make some people freak out.

I think if someone doesn't join a wiki because of some "heavy" discussions in a few threads he may better join: Kindergarten.com ;-)))

Hell, the only reason I joined the red wiki long time ago was because of you freaks (NO offense!!!) discussing and trolling the sh*t out in both J and AJ thread! ;-)))

... and my first post was answered by RDO :-)

I don't know what thread this all happened on but I've talked to Brendan before and he's too cool and calm a guy to get all mean on.

But I won't lie, this wiki has "pack" moments. But hell, so does every place.
