Layout of the Connor household
May 25 2011, 8:55 AM EDT
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, I certainly haven't managed to find an old thread related..http://roxybisquaint.livejournal.com/88410.html The above link is quite old now but interesting none the less. It contains a supposed floor plan of the Connor household that the author has devised through observation of the second series. As well as some notes on inconsistencies in various scenes. I'd be interested to hear anyone's opinion on the accuracy of the plan and if it stacks up for the most part. Do you find this valuable?

That floorplan was done by RoxyB/allergyal (she did S1 as well). If anyone got more detailed or paid more attention to the floorplan of the house than she did.. I'd be seriously surprised.

"It was good. It inspired me to go looking through various episodes. She even got the exact angle of the TV relative to the dining room! I went looking for the exterior scenes showing the other side of the kitchen window last night (with regards to Cameron being at eye level with Sarah) but have not found anything just yet. If you compare that to Sarah looking out the kitchen window at Cameron at the beginning of Goodbye to All That, you'll see what I mean. To make it easy on you, I've put a group of pictures together, with the exterior view of the kitchen windows labeled: http://allergygal.com/tscc/connorhouse/cameron-levitates.jpg Do you find this valuable? |

" Nice to see the Connor House layouts still gettin' some love :)Hey thanks for that. So either we have to assume Cameron was secretly retrofitted with Astro-boy style rocket feet or they tried to make out there was balcony there that there's not in real life. Do you notice in the last frame there is a white-ish/silver-ish object behind her that I guess could be taken for a balcony post. Do you find this valuable? |

The object you mentioned behind Cameron is either part of a platform they set up or it might be that they actually did that shot of her through the laundry room window and it's the side porch railing you see in the pic. In either case, I was amused while making the house layout when I realized there was nothing outside of the kitchen windows to stand on. Do you find this valuable? |

Shooting sets are always strange like that. There are tons of TV series and movies that play musical chair with the exterior and interior of buildings. For example, in a college campus scene, the exterior of a biology department was used as the entrance of a dormitory interior. I remember seeing a filming once for JAG whereby the ticket office for the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles was used as a Moroccan street cafe. One day I was walking through the space and saw just dust and small rubbish. The next day, I saw the same space resplendent in shiny engraved metal cafe tables, carved wooden couches, silk accent pillows, hanging lamps, and sheer wall hangings. It was a strange transformation. The only original pieces were the columns and pillars. Kudos for the set designers although I can't imagine why they choose the Shrine versus a stage set unless those columns and pillars were just that amazing. For the scene mentioned above, I had always assumed that the kitchen windows faced front and the area was part of the porch entrance, seen here: ![]() Levitation never entered the equation for me since I know how Hollywood like to bend space and time to suit their purpose. The shapes and sizes of the exterior versus the interior do not add up. Perhaps they are separate properties? The wooden exit stairs seems to connect to the kitchen shown in the show. So the kitchen is part of the same property as the exterior shown. ![]() ![]() But according to the interior shown on the commercial site, this room with the attached bathroom should be the right-most back room in relation to the main entrance. ![]() ![]() The bathroom lines up with the main staircase. ![]() Do you find this valuable? |

The image in post #8 may be the rear porch on the left side of the house but it doesn't connect with any of the interiors shown. Looking at the interior on the commercial site, the room below is on the back left hand side of the property in relation to the front entrance. There's a bolder wall outside the patio windows that doesn't exist in the exterior images.![]() ![]() On another note, the Connors also seemed to have blocked off the entrance to the room off the kitchen with the washer and dryer. ![]() Do you find this valuable? |

Perhaps they are separate properties? Those exterior stairs are on the kitchen side of the house and they go to the laundry room, which connects to the kitchen. Your second row of photos are of Sarah's bedroom (it's on the main level). That last photo is a view that looks from the dining room towards the living room. That room at the other end of the living room is Sarah's bedroom. IN between her room and the stairs is a closet, but behind the closet is her bathroom (accessible from inside her room). Did you ever look at the layout I made? http://roxybisquaint.livejournal.com/88410.html ^ If you look at that and compare it to the pics from the baldwin house and scenes from the show, you'll see what everything is and how it all fits together. I guess the layout makes sense. I think what confused me was that they are always shown entering the house from the rear porch when the camera is inside and from the front porch when the camera is outside. I don't think the front porch fireplace was ever shown onscreen.

Many of the scenes in my memory are in fact people entering via the rear which gave me, until I looked at that layout allergygal made, a completely wrong mental picture of where everything was. Drastically wrong in fact. Do you find this valuable? |

Season 2 Episode 13 "Earthlings Welcome Here"Cameron broke down the door of the unseen room with the balcony from the second floor hallway after stepping in from the larger balcony but John and Cameron then enter their shared bathroom to find Riley bleeding on the floor. The unseen room next to Cameron's room (in front of which Cameron is standing) is not as big as depicted in the floor plan due to the slopping roof. There's also a wall storage closet with some drawers across from the stairs.![]() Edit: For clarity. Do you find this valuable? |

Why are there shower curtains in Sarah's bathroom across from the toilet if there is no room for a shower? Unless a shower is tucked underneath the stairs? (See S2E18 "To the Lighthouse"). That wall shown in the show shouldn't be there. The shaded area in Sarah's bathroom shown in the floor plan should be the shower.Edit: Perhaps the shower is on the other side of the wall to the left of the toilet. The shower curtain that faces the door covers the entrance the the enclosed shower. Do you find this valuable? |
