What are you watching on TV now?

Created this thread after reading about people talking about TV shows in general. This is not for ratings news, it's for TV shows anyone is watching right now, why they like it, and if others like or dislike it, what channel it's on, etc. I'd actually encourage posting Youtube videos as well, for posters to illustrate particular scenes they like watching.

Mind you, it's for TV you are watching right now . Not something you watched a year ago. It doesn't have to be on the air, it can be on Netflix or DVD, but the rule is you have to be watching it with some regularity at this moment. For example, I cannot talk about The Wire here unless I'm actually watching episodes, or Boardwalk Empire since it's run for Season 2 has ended.

Shows I'm watching right now:
1) Shameless on Showtime: Laughing like crazy at this one, but it's a painful kind of humor. The show's title says it all, it's about a lower class family in Chicago which does anything and everything to survive. The "patriarch" is a drunk named Frank who will do anything, including ripping off the poor box from a church, to get money for alcohol.
2) Spartacus: Vengeance on Starz. Mainly because I like 300 the movie, and I'm a history nut, so I already know how Spartacus' tale will end, but it's a great ride getting there.
3) Top Chef on Bravo. Go ahead and laugh, it's actually the only Reality TV show I watch, because I love to cook. And this one is an actual competition. Moreover, I usually learn a little bit about cooking every time I watch an episode.
4) Star Trek: TOS on Netflix. Watching episodes I haven't seen, like The Conscience Of The King, or ones I haven't seen in years, like Miri.

If you even count those which are between seasons right now, I'm actually watching way too many shows these days. It's not even healthy. Since I don't actually watch them on TV but download the episodes from file sharing sites instead, you'll excuse if I don't even know or care what channels most of them are on. The shows are:

1 - Game of Thrones
2 - Californication
3 - Grey's Anatomy
4 - Dexter
5 - Castle
6 - Modern Family
7 - Nikita
8 - The Walking Dead
9 - Breaking Bad

I absolutely love them all in their very different ways, shapes and forms, and I have religiously seen each and every episode of them so far. Always begging for more and more. Fortunately, none of them seems to be in any serious risk of cancellation.

From my ~/.rssdler/config.txt

download1 = dexter - between seasons currently. The last one ended with a doozy though, so I cant wait for the next to start. This show is just... unlike anything else. I know of a few people who cant stomach it, but I find the insight into Dexter's psyche extremely exciting

download2 = lost.girl - still cool, though it doesnt quite have the oomph it had in s1. That is how fantasy is supposed to be done though, unlike TSC

download3 = pan.am - only has one ep left before heading into cancelville. Kinda fun, but I wont really miss it

download4 = how.i.met.your.mother - only watching because well, I been watching since forever. Has some good eps still, but mostly it is just totally gimmicky

download5 = castle.2009 - still rocks. Great humor, great character chemistry, and not just Rick/Kate. Last night was amazing, with Kate finding out she is not Rick's first muse

download6 = raising.hope - doesnt really have that many laugh-out-loud moments for me, but very amusing to watch

download7 = cougar.town - finally back! Quirkiest bunch of people evaa

download8 = body.of.proof - Dana Delany, nuf said. Otherwise not a very good show, but character interactions are amusing. Will for sure be canceled but I dont care

download9 = suburgatory - in a word: insane. Awesome satire of suburban life, great characters

download10 = greys - ah, Greys. Currently the show I am the most enthusiastic about. Surprisingly lots of humor, really awesome characters, touching patient-of-the-week stories, and of course Calzona FTW!!

download11 = big.bang.theory - best comedy evaa. We'll see how long it will be able to sustain the intensity

download12 = secret.circle - total crap with bad dialog, lame stories, lame characters and continuity holes everywhere. But, Britt Robertson and Shelley Hennig. Especially Shelley is HOTTTT

Extra mention: Chuck

It ended recently, but I'm re-watching from the beginning now. This show was pure awesome from the very first ep, to the last. Amazing character chemistry, insane humor, kick-ass action, but a lot of heart too. Really, really, really lot of heart. Now my third-favorite show of all times (behind Buffy and Charmed).

I've been watching Spartacus: Vengeance as well. I thought going into the new season the biggest hurdle for the show would be recasting the lead but after the premiere episode I saw just how much it was missing the scheming and politics of the first series. The Batiatus household encapsulated the Roman but with the start of the slave revolt the cast is now clearly divided along lines of allegiance whereas before the sides were less obvious.

Fortunately the subsequent episodes have steadily improved.

Couple more shows I forgot to mention

5) Top Gear on BBC. 3 boys with their toys, in this case automobiles. If you've never seen the show, WATCH IT! Especially the episode where The Boys have to turn 3 cars into mobile homes. One of them makes a Citroen into a 3 story home....and forgets about the problem of Wind Resistance....

6) Dogfights from the History Channel (Netflix). Just discovered this.
They use computer animation to recreate historical air combat from the
20th Century. As a flight sim gamer, I love watching this stuff. Graphics look great and they delve into the tactics in depth.
Here's an example:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Love that episode and that show and I’m not even a car guy; I have heard it’s the most popular show on the planet but that may be just hype, and there is franchise shows out there as well which are crap. Only the original English version is worth watching!

A better example of the awesome crazy this show does so well can be summed up in this heavy edited clip…

There's one thing that bugs me about your download list, Gusar. All that American TV and you don't download anything from HBO? Are you freaking kidding me (meant in jest)? It's the best network in the USA for TV.

Oh, yeah, one thing is missing on the list - True Blood. I didn't think much of s3, but s4 was quite good again.

The other thing missing on the list - Melissa&Joey. As cookie cutter as a sitcom can be, but it's perfect for when you're down and need cheering up.

Also, Lost Girl isn't American :P (it really isn't, it's a Canadian show)

*firp*

Please dear God, tell me he did not just write that.

*rereads*

He did just write that.

*sighs*

I've actually stopped watching True Blood because of Season 4. Could not stand the last 3 episodes. Complete failure for me. Missed payoff after missed payoff, and the "final confrontation" with Marnie was excruciatingly bad. I don't know if you've watched those episodes, but if you have...

This post pretty much encapsulates everything I disliked about Season 4.

Yeah, I did just write that. The thing is, I don't care about True Blood that much. Season 1 was great, s2 was too, except there already one part kinda dragged. Then, in s3, I didn't care about Edgington at all until maybe later in the season and I didn't see why I should care one iota about the werewolves. So my interest in the show went down considerably. Compared to that, s4 was an improvement I thought. Any issues that the final confrontation might have had... I'm too "meh" about the show to care about it.

Dexter – The main character is a serial killer and you’ll end up “caring” what happens to him which just goes to show how well acted and written this show is because by rights you shouldn’t!

Person of Interest – Just how far are we into the 1984 type big brother scenario and if one man had access to it? Good if not great, well-acted and intriguing.

Castle – Good and fun crime drama, good character interaction.

Nikita – Haven’t watched a single episode of season 2, keeping for a rainy day, not as good as the first series.

The Walking Dead – Started out great but is now beginning to wander a bit story wise, still good drama.

NCIS/NCIS- Los Angeles – Not that great anymore but both solid enough to watch and rarely bad.

Supernatural – nearly always good, also a perfect balance between standalone and arc, should be used as the blue print on how to do a serialised show.

The Vampire Diaries – My favourite, called a Twilight rip off, Lol, Twilight could only wish it could be this good! Great actors and well written, has more plot points a season than most shows have in their entire run, not perfect but close.

Lost Girl – What Gusar said.

Bones – for the same reason I watch NCIS.
The Finder – for the same reason I watch Bones.

The Big Bang Theroy – very funny.
